About Me

My name is Katia Dorcin. I have been living in British Columbia for 9 years now. I left Paris, the most beautiful city in the world to settle down in the most beautiful province of Canada. I really enjoy living in this part of the world. When I left Paris and immigrated a few years ago, I had a dream. My dream was to reach financial freedom – freedom meaning being my own boss. That was a long dream of mine!

I’m a big fan of Decoupage – derived from the French word “découper” which means “to cut out” – it’s the creative art of assembling, pasting and varnishing paper cutouts for decorating objects. So naturally, my first attempt to become financially independent was to recycle old furniture using the French art of decoupage, and to resell them through consignment stores.

At that time I was living in the Okanagan Valley in the beautiful city of Kelowna. Things were going pretty well, but then I decided it was time to move to Vancouver. There, I worked for a couple of years in a French organization as an employment counsellor for new immigrants. Even though I loved this job, I decided not to renew my contract in order to start my little company.

I didn’t have  a workshop anymore to work on my furniture anyway, (hey! you know Vancouver is very expensive), but still had an interest in decoupage. So, after some market research, I found my niche and decided to sell decoupage craft supplies online. I learned everything I could to start my business online. I created my own website with Zen Cart, an open source, and launched Paper2Play.com, my first online business. Despite doing everything I could to get traffic to my site, I was struggling to at it. I realized a little bit too late that Zencart wasn’t very SEO friendly.

Up to this date this business hasn’t reach its full potential. I went through many struggles… many ups and downs during this journey, but the lessons I have learned during these past two years are invaluable. Despite all the work brought to by my business, I still needed more excitement, more adrenaline and a new challenge.

So, for the past year, I had numerous sleepless nights. During these hunting nights while surfing the web trying to find new ways to drive traffic to my site, I was intrigued to find that you could make money online blogging, selling infos products, PPC, Social Media…without breaking the bank. Consequently I started to learn Wordpress, an open source software freely downloadable in order to apply all that I was learning: affiliates programs, CPA, etc.

I had follow internet marketing experts like John Thornhill, Dave Nicholson, Jimmy D. Brown but never took a chance to implement their teachings. Fortunately, I’ve decided it was time to take my online ventures to a greater level. I need to have more than one streams of income, and at least one that could bring passive income.

In February 2010, I received an email announcing that John Thornhill was starting his long time awaited MasterClass program. Having seen all the great results made by some of his students who had absolutely no experience, I decided it was time for me to give it a chance too.

So, Here We Are, KatiaDorcin.com

I registered this domain name after enrolling in the program. I wanted this blog to be a beginner guide to using WordPress platform to setup a static website or a blog. However, during the first few modules in the program, I’ve realized that it’s more than that. This blog is a work in progress.

In this blog I want to record my progress in implementing what I’m learning and to share with you my efforts to earn money online. I will write about WordPress, blogging, Internet marketing, and much more. Sometimes I might even post videos tutorials. I am still in the early days of my adventure but already feel the difference between learning with a mentor instead of by myself.

If you are new to theses pastures and if you are interested in learning with me…you came to the right place.
